Frequently Asked Questions

You may want to know...

Q: What is donated money used for?
A: Donated money supports Local Aid's non-food programs—dental visits, prescription drugs, utility assistance, bus tokens and the like. In addition, donated money is used to pay expenses such as rent and utilities for our facility on 6th Avenue and our director's salary, to purchase needed supplies, and occasionally to purchase extra food.

Q: Do clients receive money from Local Aid directly?
A: Local Aid does not give money directly to clients. All funds are distributed through utility companies, local merchants and schools.

Q: Aren't peanut butter, soup and canned tuna good-value foods for us to donate? Why are they sometimes not on your shopping list of needed foods?
A
: Those ARE excellent foods for our food bank to have on hand. If they are not on our shopping list, it's because we have a good supply already.
